Anyone who has had a true encounter with Maeceo can tell you who he really is. It's evident in the way he speaks, the manner in which he carries himself and the incredible way he selflessly considers the well-being of others, even when he himself is in pain.

A Father
Honestly, my dad sacrificed himself for me. I remember a heartfelt conversation we had when I was a teenager and found myself steering in the wrong direction. My dad told me to make informed decisions and to do better than he had done during his younger years. He stated that I can't be in the streets like other guys my age. He advised me to move through life with a purpose. He encouraged me to respect and protect my home because our family had experienced enough trauma.
Another fond memory I have of my dad and me is when I borrowed my friend's PlayStation. My friend knocked on the door to pick-up his game system and my dad answered the door. My dad, not knowing that I borrowed a friend's PlayStation, was alarmed. He said, "Son, do not borrow your friend's game system unless you're in a position to replace it if something were to happen." Christmas of that year, I woke up to my own PlayStation from my dad and my granny Gail.
His words resonates with me still to this day. It drives me to be the responsible man that I have become. My dad has been here for me. I have not forgotten him and he hasn't forgotten me. I know I don't speak much about it or share our conversations because it's just hard to think about it. But the more I try not to think about my dad being in prison, the more the thought consumes me. Because I know he deserves to be home with me. He does not deserve to be in prison. There are people who do need to be behind bars, but my dad is not one of them.

Maeceo embodies everything a mother can only hope for. He is the oldest of six children and was always a big help to me in watching his sisters and brother while I worked the night shift. He is a great person, kind-hearted to his core. His first instinct is always to help someone.
Maeceo always pushed himself to be the best that he could be. His positive energy and friendly disposition makes him highly approachable. He could interact with any race of person and everyone would feel comfortable. He just has a way with people.
The warmth and kindness that radiates underneath the surface of his quiet strength is what I miss the most. I love, love, love him and hope that God will send him home to me and our family in my lifetime.

Let me say something about my oldest son Maeceo Lamont Dickey whom I love very much. As his father, it hurts me to see how this justice system has failed him and a lot of young men. As a young boy he was smart, well-educated at the best magnet schools. He developed into a very intelligent, compassionate, thoughtful, loving and respectful black man.
It’s time for justice for Maeceo – God’s justice. And no one would want to fall into the hands of an angry God. Everyday I wait to hear my son is home. But I pray that God keeps the angels surrounding him and his grace and justice for Mace will soon be done. Love until the end.

A Grandson
To my dear beloved grandmother, who changed my diapers, who taught me to have a sense of humor, and even in the darkest times, to find laughter. I love you and I will miss your smile, your love, your laughter, and your sense of humor. You taught me to give respect to everybody, regardless of their status in life or their race. Maeceo is a loving, encouraging, protector, as well as a strong, determined, trustworthy, intelligent, talented, and gifted big brother! Maeceo L. Dickey is a great friend with a sense of humor out of this world.

When we were kids, Maeceo was always protective, always playful – part bodyguard, equal parts prankster. He played the big brother role well. My younger self still owes him one for what he did to my Cabbage Patch Doll. While my young adult self still beams with gratitude because his personal training got me into the most amazing shape for a dance audition.
That was always his way.
Maeceo is an amazing man. I am honored to call him my brother. I am prayerful that these words aren’t all that we will ever have. I stand with our family in that Maeceo is not deserving of anything that has happened to him and that it is past time for his story to be told. Maeceo changed my diapers and frequently babysat me. I recall watching BET's Donnie Simpson while waiting for Maeceo to arrive to take me to kindergarten because our mother worked overnights and was totally exhausted to see me off to school. To support her, Maeceo took on that responsibility. He even took me on his dates and errands to free up our mother so she could support our family.
Fast forward to September 1999, me having my daughter and Maeceo extending the same support to me. He played a major role in the early developmental stage of his niece’s life. With Maeceo’s work schedule at Chase and personal training sessions after work, he still managed his time to be there for my daughter’s first steps, potty training and nature walks at Riis Park. Maeceo is by far the most selfless person I know. No matter what state he was in, he stretches himself to be there for his family.
Between our late grandmother and Maeceo’s moral support and prayers throughout my undergrad experience, I was able to push pass artificial barriers to graduate. When Maeceo found himself in this nightmare, I was in my Sophomore year of undergrad. Having knowledge of my educational journey, Maeceo would provide words of encouragement from a jail cell, in which I still apply year-to-date.
I remember the moment that I missed the mark by landing an unfavorable score on an exam, which caused me to question my capability. Maeceo said to me, "Detach yourself from that defeated spirit because we’re all out of tears to cry. Twin, take that "L" to learn and grow from it and retest on your own to strengthen your skills in that area." After that pep-talk, I hit the mark! Maeceo now fully assumes the role of moral support and prayers with all my life endeavors.
Maeceo, is far beyond a big brother to me. He is an amazing mentor and friend. I stand here with great indebtedness to Maeceo for being a continuous phenomenon in my life. I am determined to not only support him through this adversity, but to prove his innocence and show him that "He is Not Forgotten".

When I think about Maeceo, my first-born nephew, a compassionate heart, laughter and fun times come to mind! I remember the fun times we had doing exercises and helping Daddy A.K.A. (Big Daddy) put up Christmas decorations. No matter what Mace is experiencing, he still has a positive outlook, a smile and jokes!
One of my favorite times with him was the trip to Florida. Daddy, Mace and I had a wonderful time with family and at Disney World!

As my oldest nephew, Maeceo has always been extremely loving where I’m concerned. He has never ceased to work hard at every aspect of his life. He’s also always showed love to everyone or his loved ones. He’s always complimenting my wife and I about how much he admires our marriage and how he looks up to us. I’m so looking forward to seeing him when he comes home where he belongs.
A Cousin
Who is Maeceo to me? A Cousin who was there to help Mama and Dad take care of me when I was born. He has been through so much, but has stayed encouraged facing all kinds of obstacles. Placing his faith in the Lord Jesus who has been with him every step of the way. He has even encouraged his siblings who have been very consistent in fighting to get him from being behind bars. Maeceo, stay strong bro and I got nothing but Love for you bro.

Maeceo Dickey isn't just any name to a random face. That name belongs to my uncle who is the most caring, loving, devoted, outgoing, creative, strong-willed person you will ever meet in life. He will never let you see him defeated. He carries the world on his shoulders, but he is never in it alone. He has always been my motivation for things I wanted to accomplish in life. He's always been in my corner, even when he wasn't physically there. For he will always have a place in my heart.

And very soon we (as in my family and me) will have our care bear/uncle/father/ and brother back home where he truly belongs.

An Integral Part of Our Family
Maeceo deserves to be home with his family. His absence from photos is glaringly obvious. His presence is greatly missed. Every birthday, every holiday, every day that ends in "Y" that Mace is still unjustly imprisoned is one day too many. The faulty cracks in the judicial system deeply impacts more than just the person who is incarcerated. By design it's intended to not only break the spirit of those behind the walls, but also destroy a family and a community down to its core.
However, this time they have chosen the wrong family.
We will not be moved. We will continue to share Maeceo's story. We will continue to pour out the love of God in our praise and our prayers. We will be the light in the deepest, darkest areas of the criminal justice system. What they have done to Maeceo and countless other men and women can no longer be hidden - it will come to light.
